Coronavirus / COVID-19
This outbreak has left many people worried about the next few months. If you are concerned and wish to update or make a Will or a Lasting Power of Attorney, we will do all we can to minimise risk as much as possible. I can send you a questionnaire that you would then return to me, and I would telephone you or arrange a video conference to confirm your instructions. Please email for more details.
We are now having very limited meetings for signing purposes only. Due to the new lockdown, these will have to be doorstep or garden based.
Will writing service in Rottingdean, Brighton.
While most people understand the importance of making a Will, recent statistics show that 2/3rds of us do not get around to preparing one, leaving uncertainty behind at an already difficult time. The subject may seem daunting, but not having a Will could leave your loved ones with more to deal with than is necessary.
If you are married and have assets of more than £250,000, you may be surprised to know that your spouse may not simply inherit everything – as most people seem to believe.
Perhaps you want to ensure that, ultimately, your estate passes to your children, while still providing for your spouse during their lifetime? A life interest Trust can be attractive as it can ring fence your assets from those belonging to your spouse – and even ensure that a subsequent marriage does not result in your estate passing somewhere you could not have anticipated on their re-marriage.
Lasting Powers of Attorney
Thinking about making a Lasting Power of Attorney?
It is not uncommon for people to believe that a Lasting Power of Attorney is something that you do not really need until you have issues with mental capacity, such as Dementia. In truth, it’s something you need to put in place before you have any problems and as a safeguard against what may or may not happen in the future.
If a person is incapacitated for any reason, mentally or indeed physically, even their spouse would be unable to simply ‘take over’ their affairs without the necessary express authority. Joint accounts can even be frozen by some banks.
Drawing up a Lasting Power of Attorney now ensures that if the worst happens, the people who you trust are empowered to take care of things for you, and these matters are then not decided by Social Services or even the Court.
It is never an easy decision to make a Will and as a single parent I knew I had to do it, as I am certainly not getting any younger and had been meaning to do …this for the last ten years and had not ever quite got around to doing it. One of the reasons was that I wanted someone I trusted to help me and I had looked at different solicitors
etc., but it seemed rather daunting. Then I met Kirsty, who with her friendly profession alism, explained everything so clearly, it seemed obvious to choose The Deans Legal Services to write my Will. I am so glad I did! Throughout the whole process…
Professional, personable and great value. Was dreading doing our will but Kirsty made the whole process pleasurable. Would recommend without hesitation ?
We used Deans legal services for our wills recently. I was really dreading doing a will as it’s a very difficult subject to talk about. As parents though we wanted to make sure our children would be looked after if anything did happen to us. Kirsty made the whole experience much easier than I thought. She put us both at ease and explained everything very simply. Very efficient and swift in drawing up the wills. Great communication and an overall enjoyable experience.
